Members of Higher Power
Higher Power Quartet was founded in 1996. The ministry has
always been centered out of Des Moines, Iowa, although the
members of the group live in several of the surrounding
communities in central Iowa. The members of the group include
Nate Bradford from Pleasant Hill;
Brett Rickabaugh from
Runnells;
Rod Johnson from Windsor Heights;
Steve Mickelson from
Kelley and
Don Egli from
Prairie City. Each of the members has a
long history of musical experiences. These experiences range
from singing with family groups; singing in elementary, junior
high, high school, and college choirs; singing with other gospel
groups; and singing for home church programs. Higher Power has
also opened for numerous professional gospel groups.
Occupations of HP Members
Higher Power is not a full-time music ministry. Each of the
members holds down a full-time job. Nate Bradford, also known as
“Handee”, is an independent carpenter/all-around fix-it man and
is also an E-Bay buyer and seller. Brett Rickabaugh teaches
Industrial Technology at Southeast Polk High School and also
runs his own construction business in the summer months. Rod
owns Creative Concepts and works as a decorative painter. Steve
Mickelson is an Associate Professor in the Department of
Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State University
where he is an advisor, teacher, and researcher. Don Egli is the
Director of Safety and Security for the Iowa Motor Truck
Association in Des Moines.
Higher Power’s Ministry
Higher Power has the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with many
Christian organizations and community organizations for the
purpose of sharing God’s Good News and His love throughout the
Midwest. Each year Higher Power performs at church services,
special church events, gospel sings, community events, and
private events. Steven Mickelson is the booking agent for the
group. Pricing for concerts is dependent on the distance the
location is from Des Moines, travel expenses, and the purpose of
the event. It is Higher Power’s desire to be faithful to God’s
calling, but also faithful to our families and home churches.
A Higher Power Concert
Each Higher
Power concert is tailored to the specification of each
organization. A typical concert would include anywhere from 30
minutes to two hours of songs, sharing, and personal
testimonies. Higher Power provides the sound system, a
multimedia presentation, and many other special features for
making the performance professional and enjoyable. Higher Power
sings Southern Gospel, Progressive Gospel, and Traditional
Gospel music styles. People from all ages enjoy the special
mixture of songs, words of encouragement, and words of
conviction presented at each concert.

Higher Power‘s Purpose
The purpose of Higher Power is to share the gospel of Jesus
Christ through song to those who do not know Him, and to
encourage those who do know Him to come to a closer relationship
with Him.
“Each one should use whatever
gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering
God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do
it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he
should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all
things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the
glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 4:10-11
NIV)
